Flickr Friday: Painted Cup Moth caterpillar

Painted cup moth

This amazing macro of a tiny Tasmanian creature comes from a Flickr contributor who calls himself ‘Nuytsia@Tas‘ and shows the ‘first instar caterpillar of Doratifera oxleyi (Painted Cup Moth). Approximately 3mm long’.

Nuytsia@Tas says in his Flickr profile that he is “an ex-horticulturalist, working conservationist, trained biotechnologist, manic botanist, lapsed ornithologist, hobbying biologist with an an all round interest in natural history’, and when you explore his online portfolios you’ll see why we’ll be inviting him to contribute one to thisTasmania.

Editor’s note: If you would like to be featured here, simply upload your photographs to Flickr [signing up is free] and we’ll find them. We check regularly for new entries tagged with ‘Tasmania’ or, better still, ‘thisTasmania’.
